The U.S. Open of Snowboarding from March 5-11, 2012 at Stratton Mountain, VT continues its tradition moving into its 30th year by attracting the top snowboarders from around the world in what’s known as one of the most prestigious event in the sport. Featured riders in halfpipe and slopestyle including Shaun White, Kazuhiro Kokubo, Iouri Podladtchikov, Louie Vito, Mark McMorris, Danny Davis, Scotty Lago, Sebastian Toutant, Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, Enni Rukajarvi, Jamie Anderson and Gretchen Bleiler have gathered for an action-packed week of events, including nighttime entertainment and various alternative competitions to create a festival-like atmosphere.
The event has also attracted a slew of top sponsors. Of course, there’s the Burton contingency of Burton, RED, anon, and Gravis, along with big players such as MINI—the presenting sponsor–TTR (Ticket to Ride), and collaborative sponsors such as Mountain Dew which is hosting the Friday night party featuring Super Mash Bros, and Nokia which is hosting the Saturday night “30th Love” party featuring Method Man (of Wu-Tang Clan), and Redman.
Interestingly, the action this time around can be seen on Redbull.tv which is how they’re involved in the iconic event as well via a live webcast that starts on Friday, March 9-11.
Other than predictable high-action competitive events in pipe and slopestyle, there’s also a retro-themed “slingshot” race for old-school U.S. Open competitors hoping to win “The Washed-up Cup” and an invitational Night Jam under theatrical lights on Saturday night.
Universal Sports will air the men’s and women’s finals live on TV March 9 and 10th, but we can bet most fans will be catching it on the live webcasts instead.
