Lance Armstrong Bike Designs with Pop Artist Kenny Scharf and Street Artist Shepard Fairey Bring Attention to Nike’s”Stages” Benefit Show for Cancer

In Nike’s new “Stages” art show tour to benefit Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation, New York pop artist Kenny Scharf and street artist Shepard Fairey have been brought on board to custom design two of the Tour de- France winner’s bikes by Trek (curated by Supertouch). The bikes are to be used in the upcoming Giro D’Italia race which is second in hype and prestige only to the Tour de France. The race courses through several cities and will be also mark a special occasion as Giro celebrates its 100th anniversary. Lance, who’s now back in the saddle after breaking his collarbone in a race in Spain last month, is sure to bring unprecedented attention to the cause, but combined with the unique art-bikes and a Nike tour (and Trek and Giro brands’ support), the overall multi-collaboration is definitely high-profile, especially in Europe where road cycling is huge.

Shepard Fairey designed bike for Lance Armstrong

Kenny Scharf designed Lance’s Trey TTX time trial bike with his signature styles while Shepard created repeat patterns representing Lance’s cancer foundation and Italy’s architectural aesthetics. The bikes will be shown off in Paris on July 16th at Paris’ Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, and then auctioned off October 2 at the New York City “Stages” art tour stop at Park Ave. Armory. All proceeds will benefit the Livestrong Foundation.
