Fin Flyer.

C.R. “Craig” Stecyk III, the co-writer and production designer of “Dogtown and Z Boys” with Stacey Peralta, is debuting a digital film short called “Fin” as part of his collaboration with Hurley in a film series project capturing personages of Southern California. The soundtrack includes Social Distortion, Breakdown, Tommy Guerrero and Steve Alba and the Powerflex 5.

“FIN investigates artisan garage culture.  It will offer insights into an assortment of individuals who incorporate traditional do-it-yourself garage methodology into differing pursuits such as traditional modified vehicles, surfboards, skateboards, art, music and communications,” states Stecyk.

Stecyk and southern California in general, are becoming popular once again but this time among a DIY generation that is also looking to references from past iconic eras and artistic creators. From Arkitip Magazine’s collaboration with Pendleton and the California state symbol wool surf blanket honoring So-Cali roots when Pendleton flannel shirts were once worn by the Beach Boys after surf sessions, to K-Swiss X Joey Yates, Dennis Hopper X Vans, and the resurgence of surf brands such as legendary 70’s classic Lightning Bolt and growth of new brands with nods to times past such as Aviator Nation and Warriors of Radness, Hurley is catching the wave (no pun intended) by recognizing and capturing the icons and moments of what defined a very diverse and OG DIY culture in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Fin will debut on February 8th at the Hurley H Space Gallery in Costa Mesa, CA, along with a set of limited-edition art and photography captured from Stecyk during the making-of featured on T-shirts as well as other printable keepsakes.

“Stecyk is both a celebrated chronicler of the art, surf and skate cultures as well as a longtime friend to the Hurley brand.  When he told us of his plans for the film, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work together to bring his vision to life,” states Jason Maloney, Hurley’s Director of Art.

The T-shirt collection will be available at Hurley.com and throughout the tour of the movie.
