Crossover industry collaborations continue to increase as the fashion industry struggles with the current economic climate. In yet the latest somewhat perplexing deal is Quiksilver’s collab with the NBA in a multi-year merchandising partnership to create a line of NBA-branded boardshorts. The initial collection this summer features the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and the Orlando Magic.
“Quiksilver is excited for the opportunity to partner with the NBA on a boardshort offering basketball fans the opportunity to showcase their fandom on the street as well as the beach,” said Bob McKnight, Quiksilver CEO. “At Quiksilver, we are committed to providing the best surf apparel for the finest athletes in our sport-and now we can extend that quality to basketball fans across the country who want to support their favorite teams all year long.”
The Quik/NBA collection is available at flagships stores nationwide, and online at Quiksilver.com and NBA.com, retailing at $65. The boardshorts feature Quiksilver’s “Diamond Dobby” fabric technology which have been created for and worn by the world’s best surfers.
