MAHFIA SESSIONS, a series of events created to educate, influence and entertain passionate women in the action sports industry and powered by Group Y, wrapped up a successful weekend alongside B4BC’s Shred the Love event in Mammoth Lakes, CA, on March 23, 2014.
The weekend kicked off on Friday, March 21, 2014, as women from all around gathered for drinks and chatted with fellow peers, both familiar and new, at Mammoth’s newest hotspot, Underground Lounge. Saturday’s schedule was filled with Shred the Love events which raised close to $8K for B4BC’s breast cancer educational outreach programs and the designated local beneficiary, Mammoth Hospital’s Cancer Care Fund.
In the evening MAHFIA SESSIONS continued, hosting six of the industry’s most influential women and true pioneers of women’s snowboarding, who sat comfortably at the Underground Lounge in a casual round table setting, offering up details about what it took to get women’s snowboarding to where it is today. The panel of women included Lisa Hudson, B4BC co-founder, former Marketing Director at Airwalk, Owner & President of Black Sun Productions, Kathleen Gasperini, B4BC Co-Founder, senior editor of Snowboarder Magazine, SVP of Label Networks, Miki Keller, former VP Marketing at Morrow, founder of Women’s Pro Motocross Championships, Gaylene Nagel, former Marketing Director at Sims & Lifestyle Marketing at Electronic Arts, owner/president of M3 Mobile Marketing. Shannon Dunn-Downing, former professional Snowboarder, 2 x Olympian and Cara-Beth Burnside, former professional snowboarder, Olympian, skateboarding pioneer and co-founder of Hoopla Skateboards. MAHFIA founder Kim Woozy led the conversation as each woman shared insight into how females can continue to set the bar and elevate in a community that has been dominated by men for decades.
“Interacting with the girls that attended the event was really incredible,” commented Miki Keller. “It is so exciting to know there’s so much passion in these females for action sports! And being there with the B4BC event made it extra special.”
