There’s been a lot of movement in the world of fashion trade shows as the industry gears-up for another round.
First, Magic Marketplace, run by Advanstar Communications, which is owned by UBM PLC, has made another big change in the year that it’s owned it. First, Chris DeMoulin, who was the president of Magic, will be the managing director for UBM Americas, Tommy Fazio, currently the president of UBM Advanstar will be the President of retail fashion, and Erik Ulin will become the new President of men’s fashion, overseeing Magic, Project, The Tents, The Collective, and Pool trade shows. Ulin was the President of J. Lindeberg USA.
“These executive appointments are a key step to integrating Advanstar into the UBM global organization and lays a strong foundation for when Joe Loggia, current CEO of UBM Advanstar, leaves at the end of the year,” said UBM Americas’ Foster in a statement.
UBM acquired Advanstar Communications late last year for $972 million.
Capsule, owned by Reed Exhibitions (which also owns Agenda), will move it’s Paris Men’s show from the Cite de la Mode to Maison de la Mutualite, a historic venie in the 5th arrondissement from January 22-24, 2016.
Capsule NYC Men’s show will move closer to Liberty Fair to Pier 92. Liberty Fair will stay at Pier 94. Both shows take place January 26-28, 2016.
And as we reported previously, Agenda moved it’s New York City show from Javits center to Miami, running from January 18-19, 2016.
Denim Premiere
A popular denim trade show which will take place November 18-19, 2015, in Barcelona, Denim Premiere has turned its focus to sustainability and Coachella-trending styles.
As we’ve seen in denim over the past few years, and with a growing number of streetwear brands, sustainability is vital in the fashion industry: one of the most polluting industry’s in the world. Not only is it important for brands to get on board, but consumers are demanding it. In our upcoming 4th Sustainability and the State of the Future Youth Culture Study, 2016, the percentages of young people interested in sustainable fashion and seeking out brands that choose a more sustainable path have greatly influenced changes in trends, styles, and buying patterns.
At Denim Premiere during the second day of the show, a conference will take place focusing on sustainability, and moderated by fashion expert Giusy Bettoni. According to Sportswear International, Bettoni will host Omer Ahmed, CEO of Artistic Milliners, Jessica Dorfman, designer for Calvin Klein Jeans USA, and Carmen Silla, marketing manager, Jeanologia, on stage. “Our aim is to bring the industry together and discuss about the added value that traceability and sustainability represent for their companies and brands,” commented Chantal Malingrey, director of the show.
Also seen among many collections that will showcase at Denim Premiere will be Coachella-style trends. “I think that the denim market is moving towards a greater sense of lightness, smoothness and fluidity,” commented Philippe Friedmann, denim fashion consultant of Denim Premiere Vision. “We will see always more light blues and baby blues, and less dark blue denims. Decorations such as floral and vegetal decor elements will complete more and more dusted-effect denims often added with laser engravings.” He also recognizes another major trend: “I think there will be always more attention to genderless fashion. Also fabrics will reflect this trend. Men clothes will be always more lightweight and stretch, while women’s jeanswear will focus more on heavy 3/1 denims, oversize garments and rigid fabrics.”
Genderless fashion is becoming a key factor for 2016 styles and continues to gain momentum among young consumers.
