Energy FACTory at Coachella Offers Green Scene with Bike-Powered Cell Phone Chargers, Ethanol-Powered Popcorn BBQ, + Biodiesel DJ Porta Potty Station

Among the themes that will be apparent in festival season this year is the green movement. Coachella Music & Arts Festival not only offered organic and bamboo cotton options for merch T-shirts this year, but also an entire Energy FACTory area created by Global Inheritance, the creators of the painted porta-potties and garbage cans from last year.

The Energy FACTory included facts about making energy, conserving energy, creating biodiesel, and sustainable design, but also an interactive component such as a set of stationary bikes called the Tour De Coachella where you could pedal to recharge your cell phone. This popular station has people peddling throughout the day and night to charge up various cell phones and was a great way to see how human powered energy could replace electricity. The area also had an ethanol-powered BBQ for making Jiffy-Pop, which was hung around on a tree, and a biodiesel-powered DJ station located inside a porta potty. Overall, the area attracted curious fans interested mostly in recharging their cell phone, but stopped by to see what other Energy FACTS were going on in the FACTory.
