11-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater has launched his eco-friendly collection of home furnishings with PBTeen, starting with a star-studded launch party April 30, 2015, at the World Surf League’s headquarters in Santa Monica, CA.
The collection is decidedly cool for many reasons. First, most of the pieces have some element of sustainability, similar to his clothing collection Outerknown, and the color palette is an ocean blue. Bedding, beds, beanbag chairs, and even an assembly of surf-images, including poster-sized images of Kelly Slater are all a part of making a teens’ bedroom surfer-cool.
The favorite part of the Kelly Slater collection for the surfer is his beanbag chair made from recycled cotton and recycled foam. “I took one of those things out surfing and actually rode it on a surfboard,” he said. “It’s kind of funny. I love that thing. I lounge on it in front of my TV and fall asleep.”
The launch of Outerknown is coming next. “All brands should focus on sustainability because it makes it easier for other brands to be able do that, to follow in their footsteps,” he said. “It also makes it easier for consumers to make their choices.”
