Kassia Meador has quickly become known as one of the most outspoken advocates for surfing and environmental change among top surfers in Southern California. Just after exhibiting her very cool collection of women’s wetsuits at the new women’s trade show, AXIS, in New York last month, she has announced the launch of her brand KASSIA + SURF, and a collaborative accessory called The Kit.
First, if you haven’t checked out the wetsuits, it’s worth a LookBook tour. Not only are the ‘70’s graphics inspired, full of color, and shapely, they take the concept of what is a wetsuit to new heights. For once, we see that wetsuits can actually be entirely functional, but also a well-designed and a good-looking garment for the ocean.
As Kassia describes it, “For this first collection my inspiration is coming from my love of space and the free spirit of the 70’s. Tye dye space is the place…”
Her ultimate dream however is “to build a boat that will clean up all the plastics in the ocean and take us to good waves all at the same time.”
For The Kit, Kassia hooked-up with Summer Bummer, AllSwell, and EiR NYC. The Kit kicked-off its debut in February at New York’s Warm in Nolita. They will be sold there and at The General Store in Venice, California. 10% of the proceeds from The Kit which retails for $195 goes to Waves for Water.
The Kit consists of:
- EiR Surf Mud Pro Stick SPF 50 — Environmentally friendly, all-natural and chemical-free, and packaging featuring Kassia’s photography, EiR’s Surf Mud PRo stick containing zinc for UV sun protection, chocolate for deep hydration and antioxidants that fight free radicals.
- Triangular bar of KASSIA wax — Kassia’s “magic surf wax” is infused with Palo Santo, a tree burned in ceremonies by Shaman and medicine people known for its cleansing and healing properties.
- AllSwell Notebook No.2 — This collaboration edition features Kassia Meador’s photography on the exterior and illustrations on the interior covers of products and pieces from each lady’s collections, as well as items that lend themselves to a full day deployment at the beach: swim fins, a ukelele, an old-school Igloo-style cooler, a cold bottle of Bud, etc. 8.5 x 6.5 inches and made of recycled materials.
- Summer Bummer Pouch — All this goodness is tucked inside a 10 x 11 in custom Summer Bummer zip pouch made in Los Angeles from space-dyed neoprene, using a print taken from KASSIA’s new wetsuit line. Resilient to water & features Summer Bummer’s signature oversized zipper.
More will be coming from KASSIA + SURF this September, 2015.
