Elmer Ave.’s”A Night of Tragic Emotions” Fashion Show Reveals How the Brand Stays One Step Ahead with High-end, Deconstructed Menswear with a Rock %u2018n Roll Edge
The Elmer Ave. fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios was one of the most highly anticipated shows of LA Fashion Week, particularly by those of us interested in what’s coming next from street and music-inspired apparel. The 4 owners, Collin Pulsipher, Jonny Day, Ward Robinson, and Sean Murphy have been at the cutting-edge of creating high-end menswear with a rocker aesthetics since 2002, and very much like the owners themselves, each collection has inspired a fair amount of wannabes trying to achieve the “Elmer Ave.” style that is uniquely it’s own.

Grn Apple Tree Street Fashion Brand Keeps Music-Inspired Roots for Fall ’08 Collection, but Among New Leaders Moving to Clean Looks with Political, Punk Attitude in Wovens, V-Necks, T-shirts, and Denim
When we met up with Bonner from Grn Apple Tree at Agenda, we had a feeling that the brand had evolved into a cleaner direction and away from last season’s more nu rave inspired color palette. Their booth was by far one of the best on the show floor with clean lines, almost Japanese aesthetics, muted grey background, and a collection that hung on clothing racks made of tree limbs. In essence, it was a booth design they brought back which also happened to correspond with their new Fall ’08 collection including different color palettes in grey, red, black, white, and chocolate colors.
3sixteen Tops the Charts as a Brand That Transcends”Streetwear” Through Quality, Timeless Designs, Attention to Construction
When we first met up with the 3sixteen guys, Johan out of LA, Andrew out of New York, and designer Jeff Hamada at their booth deep in MAGIC’s South Hall area last season, it was a little strange that they were there. For one thing, the 3sixteen collection looked as though it could transcend into, as Bread & Butter Barcelona would put it, “Urban Superior” rather than amidst the usual street fashion fare. Beautifully cut outerwear jackets in textured wool, flannel tapered tops, clean denim, and T-shirt graphics representing inspiration from a variety of sources, including religious references, were attention-grabbing and seemed a step-up and out of where streetwear currently stands today.

Cool to Do Lo-Fi: The Resurgence of Low-Tech Clean in Upper Street Fashion Styles Stirs Outerwear Industry Back to Classics for Winter 2008-09
Coming from a winter sports background where outwear styles and textiles continue to move in more technical, waterproof directions, it was quite refreshing to come across a growing subculture in winter fashion that’s completely Lo-Fi and Low-Tech as seen for example, with the comeback of Marlene pants and revival of Woolrich Woolen Mills from various designers.
