On Friday, August 22, 2014, we broke the news that Bread & Butter decided not to host their January, 2014 trade show in Barcelona after all.
Today, August 25, 2014, Karl-Heinz Muller, founder of Bread & Butter, released a statement as to why and what the fashion trade show has planned for 2015.
Here’s more: The majority of our exhibitors and trade visitors wish for BREAD & BUTTER to take place in Berlin in January 2015. Fashion industry and retail are sceptical towards an event in Barcelona in winter.
Karl-Heinz Müller: “In numerous talks with the decision makers of our fashion industry it became clear that in the current market situation they rather prefer to stick to the established format, despite the appeal and the possibilities of the new. At the moment, most of the exhibitors are focused on the healthy and reliable German market.
Therefore, we follow the fashion industry’s calling and will hold the event as usual at the former airport Berlin-Tempelhof. BREAD & BUTTER will take place, parallel to the other events in Berlin, from 19th-21st January 2015.
At the moment I cannot say yet if or when we will hold an event in Barcelona in the future, maybe in addition to Berlin. As I have said in my presentation: Maybe a summer event in Barcelona is more advisable.
The benefits of an additional event in Barcelona with its Mediterranean flair are perfectly obvious, especially with regards to its exceptionally successful influence on fashion, and this despite the continuing crisis in Southern Europe. I wish for an enhanced Southern European influence at BREAD & BUTTER. I hope we will succeed to bring to Berlin those numerous Spanish and Southern European brands that have already registered for Barcelona. This is the fundamental idea behind our alternating concept.
At this point I would like to thank Fira de Barcelona and the City of Barcelona for their willingness to welcome us back once more with open arms. As I have expressed many times: In Barcelona, we will always feel at home.
We will coordinate further steps with our exhibitors.
Our plans for Seoul remain unaffected by this. We will present our concept in Seoul on 12th September 2014 as planned. All preparations run at full speed. BREAD & BUTTER will take place in Seoul in September 2015.
Furthermore, I would like to herewith apologize to our exhibitors, visitors and partners for the uncertainty and eventual inconveniences caused. I assure you that we will continue to work with full power on the further contemporary development of BREAD & BUTTER.”
